Looking for natural alternatives to cure eczema, I found an article that caught my attention from an Australian celebrity chef, John Torode, explaining how he got rid of his eczema by just cutting out nightshade vegetables.
He said that he tried everything, from conventional medicine, chinese herbs, iridology, to acupuncture and nothing until he cut out all the deadly nightshade family.
What are Night Shade Vegetables? It is a large group of plants that contain a special group of alkaloid called solanine and can cause adverse effects in some people. These plants produce an alkaloid compound as a natural pesticide to protect itself from insects. For example, Green and sprouted potatoes reflect high alkaloid content.
When you cook these type of food, you reduce the alkaloid content of nightshades; however, people who are very sensitive may no tolerate these vegetables.
List of Nightshade Vegetables
-Tomato
-Tomatillo
-Eggplant
-Potato (sweet potatoes and yams are NOT nightshades)
-Sweet and Hot Peppers (paprika, cayenne pepper and Tabasco Sauce)
-Gogi Berry
-Pepino
List of foods that contain solanine but no are part of the nightshade family
-Blueberries & Huckleberries
-Okra
-Artichokes
Other substances to avoid:
-Remedies containing Belladona, considered as deadly nightshade
-Edible flowers like petunia, chalice, vine, jasmine, angel and devil's trumpets
-Topical medications for pain and inflammation containing capsicum
"Because nightshades are only a problem for a small number of people, it's overkill to suggest that everyone should avoid them" Monica Reinagel
Adverse Reactions:
Some researches believe that nightshades produce joint problems, muscle pain, morning stiffness, arthritis, insomnia, and eczema.
For those of you who think you have tried everything for your eczema, try this. Experiment on yourself is really the only way to know if these food are affecting you. Try to avoid them for 2 weeks or 4.
